The 4Cs

Every diamond is graded on four qualities. Together they decide how it looks and what it costs. Every lab-grown diamond we set comes with an IGI report that states all four.

Cut

How well the diamond is shaped and polished, and so how much light it returns to your eye. Cut has the biggest effect on sparkle. A well-cut diamond can look brighter than a larger one that's cut poorly.

Colour

Graded from D (colourless) down the alphabet as a faint yellow tint appears. D–F are colourless, G–J near-colourless. Once set, near-colourless stones look white to most eyes, especially in yellow or rose gold.

Clarity

How free the stone is of tiny internal features (inclusions) and surface marks. Grades run from FL (flawless) through IF, VVS1–VVS2, VS1–VS2, SI1–SI2 and I. From VS2 upward, inclusions usually can't be seen without magnification.

Carat

The weight of the diamond, not its size. One carat is 0.2 grams. Two stones of the same carat can look different in size depending on their shape and cut.

Where to spend

Put cut first, then choose the carat you love. Colour and clarity are where you can save without seeing a difference. Not sure? Book a private viewing and we'll show you side by side.
